Save the Dates!
Hello Emmaus Community,
Is anybody out there? Who is ready to find your calendar and save some dates for Emmaus Gatherings?
Recently, I heard Dr. David Jeremiah discuss how quickly an unexpected event can change life as we know it. He actually used his personal reliance upon his monthly calendar as an example of how our routines can change.
Dr. Jeremiah said at the beginning of January, 2020, he was really pleased with himself for completing his calendar for the entire year. He talked about a color coding system he used to denote the type of events and engagements he had planned for 2020, including the annual respite he and his wife set aside to take a special trip together. He described how his colorful, carefully detailed calendar went from fully packed with activity to one that has become black, white, gray, and blank.
I immediately related to his description and realized how I too had settled into my routine of weekly commitments. Instead of a calendar that had served as my weekly map of activity, I had begun to witness the mundane predictability of nothingness.
For the past two months, the members of your Board have prayed and sought ways to have safe, viable solutions for connecting with our wonderful Emmaus Community. We are now ready to invite you to “Save the Dates” for September, October, and November.
As we mentioned in the last newsletter, we are going to have three outside Tailgate Gatherings. Please bear with us, as we navigate through the plans ahead.
Gathering One will be on Saturday, September 12, from 4:00-6:00 at the City Park in Blackshear. We ask you to bring your own picnic supper, beverages, and set up your own chairs at the back of your vehicle. We fervently ask each of you to maintain social distancing, by remaining with your own vehicle.
Of course, we do encourage you to attend the Gathering with friends and family you have regularly been in contact with, but we must ask that you send hugs and blow kisses to others from a distance.
We would love it if you could make a sign for your vehicle or Reunion Group. Martin Turner and members of the Spiritual Team will lead us in Communion, and we will have disposable, individually wrapped Communion cups with wafers for you to use at your vehicle. We will also have a music team and a Fourth Day Speaker, and we have even asked that a few candles be placed in the middle to remind us of our Candlelight experience.
One additional option will include a community dessert table, if you would like to provide individually wrapped sweets for others. No serving utensils can be used at the dessert table.
We know this will look different.
We know this will feel different.
We are praying for an attitude of thanksgiving, as we come together again. It’s been too long, and I am excited that I have officially got three events posted on my calendar.
The other two Gatherings will be:
•Saturday, October 3, at Sea Gardens in Townsend
•Saturday, November 7, in Brunswick (location to be determined).
