Disaster Relief Training
Early Response Team Training Planned - October 4, 2008
The South Georgia Disaster Response Team has scheduled Early Response Team (ERT) training for October 4, 2008 at Pittman Park UMC in Statesboro. The training will be from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Barbara Tripp with the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) will lead the training. South GA Conference ERT identification cards will be issued to participants during the training. According to new FEMA regulations, volunteers for early response teams must be credentialed and have a photo-ID in order to enter into a disaster area. All ERT members must be at least 18 due to the higher risks involved with this work.
There is a limit of 60 persons per training. Because of the size limitation, participants must pre-register for this event. No walk-ups will be accepted. The cost of the training is $10.00, which includes lunch and snacks. UMCOR volunteer t-shirts will be available for purchase for $8.00. Online registration is available at www.sgaumc.org. For questions contact Rev. Lowery Brantley at lowery@sgaumc.com or 888-266-7642 or Carolyn Schomer, schomerc@bellsouth.net,478- 922-2965.
