Prayer Request for Rebecca Rogers
Thanks to each of you for your concern for Rebecca Rogers; her parents would ask that we send this to you.
The latest report was from this afternoon (Sunday the 26th) about 3pm. Larry Rogers (her dad) told me via phone that all is much the same as the last report about 9 am this morning. That is, Rebecca is in critical condition in trauma intensive care at Memorial Medical in Savannah, where she was airlifted yesterday evening. She has head injuries that don’t appear to be severe, chest and abdominal injuries — including lung, liver & spleen, a torn and bleeding aorta, and several broken bones including arm, rib, and lower jaw — all from the impact of a car crash yesterday about 6pm on St. Simons Island as she drove home to the north end of the island. The doctors describe her as a very sick young woman.
The biggest concern is for her lung function, as machines are breathing for her. The lungs are swollen and their capacity to receive and exchange air is greatly diminished. The other huge concern for the next several days is the leaking aorta; hopefully it will hold for a few days while her body tries to recover some from trauma. At that time doctors hopefully will be able to place a patch on the aorta. It does not, from a medical viewpoint as I understand, look very good. Doctors aren’t as concerned about some of the other injuries at this time. And it appears that her brain has come through this in relatively good shape; nothing is certain at this point.
If Rebecca’s body can survive these injuries for the next several days, then the outlook will be much better than at this writing. I am not a doctor, so I am passing along what I can best remember has been said laced with my own conjecture. It appears that she has great odds against her at this moment, great odds that call for great prayers of the community of believers. May God bless her and her family and each of you in this moment.
For the next several days I shall try to keep in touch with Larry and Anne Rogers. And we’ll pass along anything we can learn to you all. We are all praying for some good news.
